Tauranga Girls College is a Top Four National Secondary School Basketball team two years in a row. The school has a proud history of basketball with players representing Tauranga and New Zealand. Our coaches have developed an admirable programme of whanaugatanga, professionalism and team culture to meetthe needs of competitive and social basketball players.

For the TCBA 2024 season:

  • Wednesday from 4pm at Mercury Arena:

    Senior Premier (Year 11-13) + Senior and Junior (Year 9-10) A Grade

    Secondary School (Stop Clock Grades): 14-week competition 8th May – 28th August

  • Friday from 4pm at Mercury Arena:

     Age Group/Social Grade
     Secondary School (Running Clock Grades): 13-week competition 10th May – 23rd               August




All Trials:
You will need to have paid a deposit of $30 towards your fees before you can trial. This $50 will come off the total amount owed. If you cannot do this, please reach out and email [email protected]. Alternatively you can set up a payment plan. If you do this now you should have your $50 paid by trials.

Tuesday 26 March and Thursday 28 March 4pm-6pm school gym


FEES for the TCBA season:

  • Premier League: $240.00 for the season + school exchanges
  • A League: $230.00 for the season.
  • Age group league: $120.00 for the season.

Our Senior Premier and Junior A team will also have tournament fee costs - TBC.

Tauranga Girls College will hold Basketball Development Sessions commencing
February Term One all delivered by Bounce Basketball Academy. Sessions are held:
Tuesday 6AM -7.45AM TGC Sports Hall
Friday 6AM – 7.45AM TGC Sports Hall
Sunday 2pm-5pm TGC Sports Hall
The focus is on beginner/intermediate level workouts that will help improve the following:
Ball handling
Decision Making
Strength and Condition sessions will be incorporated into the programme to support the players wellbeing and enjoyment of the sport. Richard McGlenaghan and Bounce Basketball Academy will lead skill and Strength and Conditioning sessions. Students are welcome to attend one, two or three sessions per week.


Senior students are encouraged to experience the joy of coaching a junior or intermediate
team. We also welcome parents who are interested in coaching or managing their
daughter’s team and will provide support through Premier coaches mentoring and
providing resources.
Coaching/Managing involves Wednesday or Friday night games and one training per


Tauranga Girls College is a key partner to Whai Basketball and has a pathway to the Whai Tauihi Women’s Basketball Team where players can play high performance basketball.

Students who excel at basketball have opportunities to study and play overseas where they can pursue basketball both as a tertiary and professional pathway.
