COVID-19 Update Tuesday 24 March

Tēnā koe Parents, Whānau and students

With yesterday’s announcement by the Government, we are implementing with urgency our plan to support your daughter’s learning from home. We appreciate this is a sudden and significant change, but one we have been preparing for.

We are open for students of essential workers both today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We look forward to meeting your daughter at the school hall at 8.30am both of these days. We remind you that if your daughter will be attending, please email [email protected]

If you wish to check if you are considered an essential worker - however those roles include doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers and police. We continue to ask that children who are not well, do not attend school.

The school holidays have been brought forward and will commence on Monday 30 March through till Tuesday 14 April. Remote learning begins Wednesday 15 April.

For all students, we will be supporting their learning from your home in the following ways:

  • Through remote learning via Google Classroom. Teachers will begin to upload material to their Google Classroom - please remind your daughter to turn on her notifications.
  • Valuable and engaging learning opportunities where practicable will be provided.
  • If you daughter needs support with her learning, please ask her to email her classroom teacher.
  • If you daughter needs pastoral support, please ask her to email her dean.
  • If your daughter needs IT support to be able to access our systems, please email [email protected]
  • Students who have indicated they don’t have a device will be communicated with shortly.
  • Ministry staff will be available by phone or skype for parents of students with special needs

Parents, caregivers, whānau and teachers will have a particularly important part to play in reassuring students at this time. If you haven’t already done so, you may wish to read the information put together by the Ministry of Education to support your conversations with your daughter – Talking to children about COVID-19.

As noted by the Prime Minister these restrictions are our best chance to slow the virus in New Zealand and to save lives. We all have a clear role here to slow the spread of COVID-19. All informaion regarding restrictions can be found at the official COVID-19 website -

We will continue to communicate any changes as they come to hand. Please refer to our FB and Website also. Thank you for your ongoing support of our school staff and school community. Take care, be kind and be community minded.

What's happening @TGC

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗚𝗖 Kia ora koutou, With so much information and misinformation swirling around about COVID-19, I wanted to share with you what will happen IF we were to have a case in our school community. We have been planning for this and are in a position to respond quickly. As soon as a case is confirmed in our school community (eg. a student, staff member, or member of their household), the Medical Officer of Health and Ministry of Education will inform me about this, and we will work together to get quick and clear messaging out to you IF there was a case confirmed of someone in our school, we will likely be asked to close temporarily by the Medical Officer of Health. This will allow time for close contacts to be traced, appropriate testing to be undertaken, and a careful clean of the school to be undertaken. If our school does need to close temporarily, we have a plan in place to support student’s learning. We use Google Classroom as our main platform. Please ask you daughter about this and ask her to show you what her 'google classroom' looks like. It will look different for different subjects. We know COVID-19 feels scary and of course people are concerned. This is normal, as we have not experienced such a pandemic like this one before. Please be assured that your daughter is safe here. Her learning can continue, she has teachers who are well and happy to teach and she has good access to good hygiene. Our cleaners are working longer to ensure they are extra vigilant with touch points. Good hygiene is a priority at our school, and we are reinforcing this regularly with all students and staff. We ask you to reinforce this with your daughter and ask you to keep her at home if she feels unwell. The diagram attached may help. We are getting the most up to date advice and guidance so that we can confidently make informed decisions about the safety and wellbeing of our school community. This information comes from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. Ngā mihi Tara Kanji Principal/Tumuaki
