2020 BADMINTON INFORMATION

This Sport is offered at Tauranga Girls’ College for competitive and social players. Social badminton is offered throughout Terms 2 and 3. See further information below. Competitive badminton begins for juniors in week 10 of Term 1. For seniors it begins on week 3 of Term 2. See further information below regarding junior and senior competitive seasons. The competitive season wraps up at the end of week 8, Term 3.

 

SOCIAL BADMINTON INFORMATION
Beginning Term 2, Wednesday 29th April. Students are welcome to play games each week on a Wednesday in the Old Gym from 3.30-5pm. Badminton rackets and shuttles will be available for students to use. There will be full supervision, no charge and it is a great opportunity for students to gain schoolwide participation points.

JUNIOR COMPETITIVE BADMINTON INFORMATION
Students aiming to be selected into a team to represent the school should look to attend sessions that are on offer.
TRAINING: All in the Sports Hall. Weekly Wednesday open court/game practice from 3.30-5pm beginning Wednesday 9th April, Term 1. Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime sessions held on week 10 of Term 1 AND during weeks 1-3 in Term 2.
EQUIPMENT: The school does have loan badminton rackets, however if a student is wanting to pursue badminton seriously then purchasing a racket is recommended. Shuttles will be provided by the school.
TRIAL PROCESS: All sessions in Term 2 will be used as trials for selection into teams. Teams consist of 4 players. Sport Bay of Plenty will be involved in the trial and selection process.
TEAM TRAINING: Students selected into a competitive team will be expected to commit to all lunchtime sessions during weeks 7-9 to prepare for the WBOP Tournament. Students not selected may continue to play games on Wednesday’s.

Teams that qualify from the WBOP to the BOPSS Junior Badminton Finals will continue weekly training until Wednesday 5th August.

Tournament Date: Wednesday 5th August, T3
Time: 9am-3.30pm

Cost $20pp
