Visual Arts

In the Visual Arts students enjoy the opportunity to create Art in a range of different fields. Including Paint, Design, Photography, Film, Sculpture, Digital Art and Contemporary Maori Art. Learning about Art History is also offered at year 13.

Our focus is to develop relevant ideas that are personal to each student, while learning practical skills and working through the creative process to develop ideas that clarify a final solution.

Ringa Toi is an NZQA student exhibition held in Wellington and celebrates excellence in Maori art for Levels 1, 2 and 3. The selection process involves the students mahi toi being sent from approximately 70 schools, with a description of its meaning and what has inspired them. The exhibition curators compare the works within their particular categories and choose based on what is aesthetically and technically the strongest pieces for the show.
Tauranga Girls’ College is proud to have had their Contemporary Maori Art student work selected, and in addition, one student had her artwork chosen for the NZQA Christmas card.
