Football Information 2017

Dear Parents/Caregivers and Prospective Football Players,

Welcome to Tauranga Girls’ College Football Information Page for 2017.  Football provides students with an excellent opportunity to be involved in a team, gain skills and fitness and participate in the wider life of the school.

Team Information: We hope to field 5 Football teams this year based on pre-enrolment interest

Game day information:  When finalised, all Tauranga Girls’ College Football teams, game draws, results and cancellation information will be on the WaiBOP Football website under Western Bay of Plenty Secondary School (SS) Football at http://www.waibopfootball.co.nz/index.php?id=346

Trials: Trials will be held after school at Tauranga Girls College Fields 1 and 2.  Girls attending Summer Sports Tournaments should prioritise those tournaments and preparation for them and should advise Mr Wallis ASAP if they cannot attend Football trials. Incumbent positions are not guaranteed and selection will be based around trialist skill and playing record.  Trialists will play in short tournament style games on trial days. They will select preferred positions on their registration form and selectors will observe play in those or similar positions as much as possible during trials. Trialled positions are not gauranteed upon selection for any team but will remain the ongoing decision of the coaches

Year 9 players trialling for the 1^st XI should have been playing in BOP U14 reps or similar in 2016. Trial times will be confirmed in the Daily Notices and via email.  If students are unavailable for trial dates please email Mr Wallis at dwallis@tgc.school.nz  with reasons. Students are not guaranteed a particular team and those trialling are expected to join a team as allocated by the selection panel.  Teams will be announced on Thurs 13^th April.

Under 14 and Junior A  We will try to identify possible teams for these age groups but will only run them if the WAIBOP Football draw reflects similar categories. This year some local clubs are running under 16 teams in the Federation (FTC) league on Sundays so this is also an avenue for advancement for enrolled school players. Our coaches will nominate players for these leagues based on attitude, commitment, skill and positional play record

On-Line Registration: Football registration is now online and parents need to complete the online registration form by clicking the REGISTER link at the bottom of this page and completing all details by Friday 17^th March.  (click the register button below)

You must be registered to be eligible for consideration for a team. Registration is not complete until fee payment has been made

Fees : Once registered, please pay fees of $90 or at least a deposit of $45 with your registration and complete fee payments by Fri 7^th April. If paying by cash or cheque note clearly Student name, Tutor class and ”Football Fees” to the school fees office or,  by online banking as indicated below – this completes the registration process

Coaches, Managers and Referees:  We have 2 very successful coaches who have made themselves available to continue our success with the 1^st and 2^nd XI teams but we do need further coaches for our other teams.  Please register your interest with Mr Don Wallis ASAP if you are interested in coaching at Tauranga Girls’ College.  Experience is preferred but not necessary as training will be provided. We cannot and will not run teams if we have no coaches for a team – PARENT INVOLVEMENT IS ESSENTIAL.  Please email dwallis@tgc.school.nz  A fee reduction is available for parents who are appointed to coaching positions. Also, each team requires a referee to cover home games, so any interested referees please make contact. Club Based Referee (CBR) Training is available and provided for team referees and this commences very soon in Term 1 and must be pre-booked so please indicate if you would like to be a team Referee.

Uniforms:   Football tops and shorts (the strips) are on loan from the school to the players and must be kept in good condition. Uniforms will be issued to individuals at the Sports Office once teams have been named and Football fees have been paid. Football socks can be purchased from the sports office for $16 a pair.  All players must wear shin pads. Tournament specific gear such as named shirts or sweaters are not included in the fees but can be arranged separately via the Sports Office as and when advertised. Students may order a TGC multi-sport hoodie from the sports office with their name and all the sports codes they represent
