Students enrol in individual subjects and are assessed against standards. Each standard is worth credits towards a National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA).
NCEA LEVEL 1 80 credits of which:
at least 10 credits are in Literacy and
at least 10 credits are in Numeracy.
NCEA LEVEL 2 80 credits with
L1 literacy and numeracy credits
at least 60 credits at Level 2 or above.
The remaining credits can be taken from Level One.
NCEA LEVEL 3 80 credits with:
at least 60 credits at Level 3 or above.
The remaining 20 credits can be taken from Level 2 only.

At each level of NCEA there are endorsements for Merit and Excellence
